Permit Room, Dishoom

Hospitality & Leisure

Dishoom, the much-loved restaurant group known for its homage to the food and culture of Bombay, has a ‘Permit Room’ - an all-day bar-café concept. The concept spans locations including Brighton, Cambridge, Liverpool, and Oxford. Working alongside long-standing collaborators Macaulay Sinclair, we supported the delivery of rich, characterful interiors that reflect the spirit of Bombay’s historic permit rooms, reinterpreted for contemporary settings.

At the heart of both schemes is a rich layering of colour, texture and nostalgia, where our Prismatics Victorian Cream (PRV2) 100x100mm glazed ceramic wall tiles bring subtle warmth and cohesion to the interiors. The soft and glossy finish sits comfortably within the eclectic material palette, complementing bold painted surfaces, vintage furnishings and expressive artwork.

“Permit Room is about capturing a feeling as much as a place - the sociability, energy and sense of occasion found in Bombay’s historic bars. Every element works together to create a space that evolves throughout the day, from relaxed café moments to lively evening gatherings.” said Ginny Nackvi, Brand and Creative Director at Dishoom.

Used across key bar and wall areas, the tiles provide a timeless backdrop that allows richer design elements to stand out, while reinforcing the sense of authenticity and craft that defines the Permit Room experience.

Prismatics Victorian Cream’s neutral tone helps unify the interiors while allowing bolder elements to stand out. The result is a space that feels both transportive and familiar, capturing the essence of Bombay while creating a welcoming atmosphere.
