Bishop Auckland Bus Station Durham, UK
Opened on 10th May, Bishop Auckland Bus Station has been redeveloped to create a modern, accessible transport hub designed to support local connectivity and regeneration across the region. Working alongside Esh Construction and P. Plunkett Tiling Contractors, Johnson Tiles contributed to the delivery of a robust and design-led flooring scheme, including the integration of stainless steel insert tiles by Armatile designed for accessibility, ensuring the space meets the demands of a high-traffic, inclusive public environment.
Designed as a key gateway into the town, the new station brings together transport, retail and public amenities within a clear and functional layout. With constant footfall from commuters, visitors and local residents, the brief called for materials that could withstand intensive daily use while maintaining a clean and contemporary appearance.
Across the concourse and circulation areas, our Kerastar Chalk Speckle Natural 600x600mm tiles were specified to provide a durable and consistent foundation, with a high slip resistance rating (PTV 36+) supporting safe use in heavy footfall environments. Complementing this, Kerastar Clay Natural Tactile Lines 300x300mm tiles were introduced to support accessibility and wayfinding, offering both visual contrast and underfoot performance in key zones.
