Frame and Collect award leading designers

06.03.2018

At the end of last month, designers from a host of different specialisms were celebrated during two award ceremonies. In Amsterdam, leading design publication Frame selected the best interiors of 2016/2017 following a live judging event, which allowed the final nominees for each award to present their work through a video. Whilst here in the UK, the ‘best in show’ winners from Collect were unveiled at the Saatchi gallery. Here are our top picks from the crème-de-la-crème of design.

Selecting from hundreds of craft objects shown in a fine art context by over 34 high-profile galleries, the Collect judges whittled down works in ceramics, glass, metal, wood, textiles and jewellery to five categories.

The Liaigre Award was given to James Oughtibridge, represented by Joanna Bird Contemporary Collections.

"I was touched by the radicality of James Oughtibridge’s work, by the beauty of the perfect movement, the perfect curve, the purity and the way the sensual shapes capture the light." Deborah Comte-Liaigre

The following three awards were selected by writer and curator Ekow Eshun, curator and journalist Corinne Julius and Crafts Council Creative Director, Annie Warburton.

The Outstanding Display by a Gallery was presented to Oxford Ceramics Gallery. The Collect Open Award was presented to Juliette Bigley. While the Object of the Fair Award winner was Wunderkammer by Matt Smith, represented by Cynthia Corbett Gallery.
