Noma Bar picks Mat Lab for Design Museum exhibition
Noma Bar is an internationally renowned Israeli graphic designer known for his stark and intelligent prints and illustrations.
With a staggeringly impressive client list - which includes Coca Cola, Wallpaper, Time Out and the BBC – Noma has gained such notoriety over the past 12 months that he has now been nominated for the Design Museum’s Design of the Year 2012 award in the Graphic category.
As a result, he will be showing off his 2011 ‘Cut it out’ series in a new light, combining a range of alternative materials to paper to make the work come to life. And yes – that’s right… you guessed it! Material Lab was approached by Noma to source 2D materials from Tektura, Unnatural Flooring, Priplak and Zotefoam to use in the special event. We were more than happy to oblige and are excited to see the end result.
The piece at the Design Museum apparently centres on a bizarrely cool dye-cutting machine shaped as a glossy black dog. Visitors are invited to feed various materials into the dog’s mouth and are then brandished with a unique cut-out artwork based on Bar’s designs.
Fancy checking out Noma’s work along with other artists who have been put forward for a prize? All of the nominations will be on show at the Designs of the Year exhibition from 8th February until 15th July.
Speaking of the show, exhibition curator Ria Hawthorn said: “From the everyday practicality of a carefully crafted dining chair to the thought-provoking solar powered 3D printing machine that points to the future, this year’s nominees reflect the diversity of design in all its forms, showcasing designs that will have an impact on our everyday and future lives.”
