Material Lab at Clerkenwell Design Week
Last week saw the return of the eagerly awaited Clerkenwell Design Week – back by popular demand for the second year running. And this time round, Material Lab couldn’t resist getting involved with its local neighbours!
As it was a new exhibition for us, we wanted to take a fresh approach with our stand, particularly as Clerkenwell is such a creative hub. To create the ‘wow’ factor, we decided to commission two artist designers to interpret some of our surfaces in a new and exciting way.
As such we invited our very own Jim Biddulph to get involved. After much careful planning and consideration, he created three 1/m2 sculptures resembling crumpled paper made from rigid surfaces including our Sagittarius Slim range.
As well as Jim’s centrepieces, Russell Bamber made a series of workbenches and stools for our stand in his trademark vibrant style, incorporating glossy Formica laminate.
Located in the Farmiloe Building – known as the ‘hub’ of the three-day event on St John Street – we enjoyed welcoming guests to our interactive workshop, which was brimming with materials for everyone to play with.
A fantastic experience for all the team, Clerkenwell Design Week was the perfect opportunity to introduce Material Lab to the annual event as well as the international A&D community. And we’re already looking forward to next year!
