A busy month for Mat Lab
What a month it’s been so far here at Material Lab! We’re not even halfway through and we’ve already enjoyed a factory tour or two, popped into various studios in and around London and enjoyed some of the offerings at the Surface Design Show.
First up was a factory tour at Johnson Tiles last week. We enjoyed seeing how their ranges of ceramic products are created from scratch – from initial materials to final packaging and shipping.
It was fascinating to see the new ink-jet printers in action, producing stone-effect tiles that look exactly like the real thing. We even created a special video of the entire factory process. Watch this space for a YouTube offering coming soon.
Then we had the pleasure of seeing a new ‘interactive space’ at Johnson Tiles’ head offices. More of which will be unveiled shortly.
Next, we popped into the Giles Miller Studio for a catch-up and cup of tea to discuss new surfaces, exciting new projects and window displays for Words Words Words at Selfridges and the Sheridan Hotel in Edinburgh. It was something that our very own Tenesha encouraged her Soho book club to attend and discuss Dickens in the inspirational space.
We also went along to the Clerkenwell showrooms of Forbo and Altro as well as Kvadrat, which produce beautiful fabrics.
Last but not least, we went along to the Surface Design Show where we caught up with Cosentino and Float Glass – both of whom were showcasing new and exciting products.
As ever, we were thoroughly impressed by the Scin exhibition, curated by Annabelle Filer and featuring some great new products from our old friends Graphic Relief.
All in all – a busy month and an exciting kick off to 2012.
